The shell used to make these straight-leg 'Panama-TC' shorts is specially woven in Japan to imitate natural fibres, so it's both lighter and more resistant. They're garment dyed to achieve a uniquely marbled finish and fitted with an elasticated waistband with an integrated belt for comfort.
