The Twist collection is inspired by the idea that the whole can be far greater than the sum of it's parts. When elements are combined, they take on another feeling, a greatness. Together, they are strong, but also I would argue, more beautiful. When lines are repeated, or wires woven, there is a loveliness to the pattern that fascinates and pleases. A symmetry is created that is calming and classical. I often explore materials and create collections which are craft based. Twist was created while experimenting with intertwining wires. There is a fluidity and movement to the twists that I love. The twisted wires suggest a coming together of things that I find poetic.

"I grew up around pomegranates - from their use as natural dyes on the antique rugs I used to crawl on as a baby to an integral ingredient in the food that I love. When I'm at my home in New Delhi, I wake each morning to the taste of fresh squeezed pomegranate juice. The color, the smell, the delicate flavor all make it feel like a magical elixir to me."

The flower is associated with weddings as is symbolic of purity and innocence. "I was thinking of the romance of weddings and how bouquets often use flowers which carry symbolism. I remembered a picture of a woman I had seen holding her bouquet of Calla Lilies. She was classic, timeless, and modern all at once. There is something so alluring about the billowy flowers and arching stems which feel contemporary, yet still utterly romantic."

The Butterfly Ginkgo Collection celebrates the representation of flora as fauna. Michael's fascination with a particular type of ginkgo tree, the ginkgo Biloba, or "Butterfly ginkgo", which grows with a double leaf reminiscent of a butterfly's wings, gave rise to a fantasia image of the plant. Executed at the highest level of hand-craftsmanship, each piece is rendered in solid bronze with acid etched cocoon-shaped vessels. The pieces in the collection are a tour de force of Indian craft and capture the poetic spirit that is so deeply indicative of Michael's work. The first time I saw this tree, it literally looked like it had been completely overtaken by butterflies...as if they would all take flight the moment I walked too close or made a noise. The idea that the leaves could evoke the beauty of butterflies was magical to me, like trees that can metamorphose from flora to fauna in the blink of an eye.
