Tatenokawa Foo Fighters Junmai Daiginjo Sake Duo Gift Box 2 x 720ml

From Harvey Nichols

This is a call (geddit?) to all the Foo Fighters fans out there… Dave Grohl is a big sake lover. So, to celebrate the Grammy Award-winning rock band's 25th anniversary and the release of their 10th album, called 'Medicine at Midnight', the Foo Fighters have collaborated with Tatenokawa to brew a pair of unique sakes. Harvey Nichols is proud to exclusively present a gift box featuring both sakes and additional treats. Contains: 1 x Foo Fighters x Tatenokawa Hansho Blue Junmai Daiginjo Sake 720ml, 15% 1 x Foo Fighters x Tatenokawa Hansho Silver Junmai Daiginjo Sake 720ml, 15% 2 x Foo Fighters Sake Cups 1 x Foo Fighters Medicine at Midnight Album (Limited Edition Japanese Version) Foo Fighters songs were played during the crucial fermentation process for Hansho Blue and Hansho Silver, so these sakes are imbued with their much-loved music. In honour of the new album title, they are named 'Hansho' because it means 'Midnight' in Japanese. It's unclear whether they have any medicinal qualities though. Hansho Blue was inspired by the slightly more pop aspects of the band's sound and has gorgeous aromas and a light sweetness. Hansho Silver expresses the heavy metal elements of the Foo Fighters' music, having a weighty and reverberating feel, a more expressive flavour and a whip of sharpness in the tail. Both are Junmai Daiginjo (the most refined sake grade), and both were crafted to a rice polishing ratio of 50% (this means that half of each rice grain was gently polished away). We recommend sipping Hansho Blue chilled and Hansho Silver warm, preferably from the Foo Fighters sake cups (known as 'ochoko') at around midnight, while listening to Medicine at Midnight at full volume. Then just sit back and enjoy the 'everlong' finish of each sake. Tatenokawa (meaning "Castle Brook") is a sake producer with a long and illustrious history, going back almost two hundred years. What we love about them is that they don't get bogged down in all that tradition though, leaving them free to innovate and spread the word of sake culture throughout the world. So, expect a very modern style of sake aimed at a younger audience, and also one or two very exciting celebrity collaborations. Located in Sakata City, Tatenokawa was the first brewery in Yamagata Prefecture to make only Junmai Daiginjo - the most refined kind of sake. They focus on locally grown rice and particularly one called Dewasansan, a sake-specific rice that creates complex, slightly sweet and wonderfully aromatic flavours that remind us of top-quality Pinot Gris.£11.74 per 100.00ml

The Oxford Artisan Distillery Ashmolean Dry Gin, England, 700ml

From Harvey Nichols

We've long believed that a well-made gin and tonic is an ancient work of art that deserves a place in the most prestigious of museums. And it seems that we weren't alone… The Ashmolean Dry Gin is a collaboration between the eco-friendly folk at The Oxford Artisan Distillery and the Ashmolean Museum - the University of Oxford's Museum of Art and Archaeology. Founded in 1683, the Ashmolean Museum's collections range from Egyptian mummies to contemporary art, telling human stories across cultures and through history. But don't get worried, this gin hasn't been created by distilling a mummified pharaoh. Instead, inspired by the wide-ranging depth and breadth of the museum's displays, The Oxford Artisan Distillery has crafted the Ashmolean Dry Gin using 17 botanicals from around the world. There's exotic jara lemon (a knobbly green citrus from Bangladesh), rose, jasmine and spices from the Middle East and Asia. From this juniper-led gin you can expect The Oxford Artisan Distillery's signature richness, plus notes of cardamom, myrrh, orris and lemongrass. The label design comes from the museum's Eastern Art Collection and features Morning Glory by Takeuchi Seiho, master of the pre-WWII Kyoto circle of painters. So, fix up a gin and tonic (the distillery recommends a 1:3 ratio with light tonic and a garnish of orange), and maybe settle in with an educational documentary, if you like your viewing as dry as your gin. Failing that, A Night at the Museum or The Mummy might be rather fitting. The Oxford Artisan Distillery opened its doors in the summer of 2017, and unbelievably it marked the first legal distillation in the city's history. The team are fascinated by heritage grains, sustainable farming and a grain-to-glass ethos. They're not interested in homogenous, commercial, bought-in-bulk seeds grown in the opposite of a natural ecosystem. So, they took influence from wheat and rye discovered in Medieval thatched roofs, which lead them to discover what would have been grown in the local area during ancient times. They then work with organic farms that use no pesticides, fungicides, chemical fertilisers or manure, and who undersow their crops with clover. As a result, the fields are brimming with wildflowers, insects, birds and biodiversity. Now that's an eco-friendly spirit that this country can be very proud of.£5.64 per 100.00ml

The Oxford Artisan Distillery Oxford Botanic Gardens Physic Gin 500ml

From Harvey Nichols

Possibly one of the most complex gins to ever grace our range. Physic Gin is a collaboration between the eco-friendly folks at The Oxford Artisan Distillery and the University of Oxford's Botanic Garden. The latter is the oldest of its kind in the country, and it was planted during the 1640s by Jacob Bobart the Elder as a physic garden for teaching herbal medicine, it contains a dizzying array herbs and botanicals. In 1648, Bobart catalogued all the plants he grew, and this ancient document inspired the recipe for Physic Gin. Representing 400 years of medicinal botanical cultivation, this deeply herbaceous and savoury gin is crafted using 25 unique botanicals, many of which are grown and foraged in the Botanic Garden today. Juniper and bay are joined by wormwood, rue and sweet woodruff, plus many more. Rich and earthy, Physic Gin is an education and a spirit like no other. The perfect gift for gardening gin lovers, Oxford alumni or those with an interest in the history of medicine.
